Been working up a few flash demos for the technology camp I teach in the summer (for 6th -- 12th graders).
Northcode makes a nice product called SWF Studio that extends the possibilities of flash projector files, allowing you to develop powerful stand-alone apps that get past the security limitations in flash mx. (I've used flash command line tools to do this with flash 5, but they don't work with mx. And SWF Studio takes the idea and runs with it.
SiteBar lets you keep your bookmarks on your server (with php/mysql) and access them through a folder-based hierarcy like web browsers use. As someone who tends to keep bookmarks on lots of different machines, this sounds really great. I'm going to install it. I'll let you know how it goes.

Want to play vids in wmv format w/o having to update your old, trusty Windows Media Player v. 6.4 to the latest, bloaty, spy-ware enabled one? Or maybe you're running some other operating system and don't want to be shut out of the fun. Try VLC. Also plays mpeg1, mpeg2, mp3, divix, ogg vorbis, and many others. Binaries availible for Windows, BeOS, OS X, and several Linux variants (source code is there for the rest of you).
For dealing with those pesky bz2 files (includes a nice command-line Windows binary that I've found useful).

A new spam strategy I've noticed (by the likes of stormpay.com and evocash.com--or spammers reporting to be the same) is to send an email accusing the receiver of being a spammer. This, of course, generates outrage and a quick reply, thus confirming the validity of the email address.

Saw Real Women Have Curves last night. Really great film, in every respect (especially America Ferrera's performance).
RadioAmber isn't a pretty website, but it is a great internet radio site that focusses on the 78rpm erra and earlier stuff as well. Great music and spoken word tracks.

I was amused to see philosopher Cornel West playing a bit part in The Matrix: Reloaded, which I caught last night. I don't know much about West, but I found an interview between West and Henry Louis Gates, Jr. that should help.

There are still a few kinks to be worked out, but my new portfolio is almost ready for prime time.

PhpObject from GhostWire claims to let you use PHP to connect your data-driven sites to Flash front-ends. They take the idea from Macromedia's own Flash Remoting app (which is $999). I've gotta check that out as soon as possible.
A silly flash piano I built today to use in a training session this summer. No frills yet.

I actually got a spam today (from these folks) titled "Get rid of Spam!" (advertising some spam-prevention product). Irony is not dead.
Not everyone is hip to iTunes Music Store. That's fine. There's always kazaa (or diet kazaa. And I'm as warry of Apple as I am of their main competitor, but I think it's the best game in town right now for a legal, revenue-generating, broadband music service. It's the best one I've seen, at least. And I think, assuming they port it to Windows, that I'd use it.
I've discovered VST and a nice site to find lots of them (free and commercial). Busy design, but good info.
