I've been wondering lately how useful it is for me to continue this blog. I haven't been much interested in it lately, though I still stop by to post once in a while. For a time, it was a real refuge for me (a nice place to sneak away and make sense of the world), but I'm not sure it's still fulfilling that function. For years, I kept a private journal, and I may go back to that. But I'm not sure. It'll require some thought.
I still haven't completed the process of moving things over from my old sites to my new one. And I still haven't launched the new nancyband.com site. These things need to happen soon. But there's lots involved. Since I only have 50 MB on the new account, I need to re-encode all the larger graphic and sound files so they take up less space. There's no sense having huge MP3s on my site that only get hit once in a long while. All of this takes time, of course.
On a good note, I celebrated a wonderful birthday this past weekend thanks to my wife, Gina (who planned everything and made sure that it came off), my mom Vicki (who flew up here for it), and my friends (who showed up to say hey). I played a show with Nancy that weekend and we also released our new CD and sold about 50 of them (and a bunch of t-shirts as well), so it was a really good weekend for the band and for me. And now, thanks to the generosity of others, I have a nice new watch and a DVD player along with plenty of other goodies I don't deserve. It really was in the top two of all the birtdays I've ever had.
This week I'm going to focus on coding up a PHP/MySQL application to solve a problem at work. Who knows what else will crop up. But I'm going to try to stay focussed on that. And that's all I'm going to say about work, because I'm on this kick about keeping my work and my life divided.

I've been too busy with work and band stuff to post anything in a while. But now things should get a little better. Tomorow I'm on another campus visit. This one is to a small religously-focused private school that keeps costs down by using student workers for just about everything. We'll see how it goes.
The new Nancy disc will be out next Friday. There's still lots of work to be done between now and then, but it's going to happen.

I've finally found another coding project that I can sink my teeth into. This one is pretty simple so far, but it'll become more complex the more I mess with it. I spent most of today working with out software archives and began a MySQL database of our titles. I also began a PHP front end for the database. That's the fun part. I want to use this to track who has CDs checked out and to enable staff to search the database by title and topic.

I'm almost through with the master's degree. I just have to submit two forms for the library which give them permission to copy it and such. I dropped off the final copies of the manuscript today, and I'll drop off the forms this afternoon. Then it's off to the library where they'll bind it and put it on the shelf. I'm going to do a PDF version for my site (which I need to work on as well). I have lots of web design to do, but I haven't been in the right mood for any of it. I need one good long day w/o interuptions. I could finish quite a few projects. I hope to find some time this week.
