Some thoughts on religion from jimformation.com, along with a lot of great quotes from Thomas Jefferson (good reading for those who would try to co-opt him).

It's nice when a film you don't expect anything from turns out to be good. Such was the case with the last two that I watched, Abandon and 8 Mile. Abandon is the directorial debut of Stephen Gaghan, who made his name for writing the screenplay for one of my favorite films, Traffic. 8 Mile is, of course, the big screen debut for Eminem. But don't let that stop you. It's also a solid story, beautifully shot and directed.

I'm fairly handy with Adobe Premiere, but we recently got a copy of SonicFoundry's Vegas, and I'm really impressed with it. It's especially nice for me since I'm such a fan of Acid (their audio editing app). Vegas is like a lite version of Acid with a really powerful video editing layer on top. It's great. It's cheap. The more I use it, the more I like it.

My favorite text editor for Windows is EditPad Pro. Before I was willing to pony up my registration fee, I used EditPad Lite, which contains a good subset of features in the pro version. The makers have ported EditPad Lite to Linux and are in the process of porting the pro version as well. That's pretty cool, though on Linux I tend to use either nano or Kate. Still, it's good to have options. Now would someone please create a clone of Transmit for Win2K?

OpenOffice 1.0.2 is out. Haven't had a chance to check it out yet, but 1.0.1 was pretty solid. Mozilla 1.3 is out. I've been using it at work but haven't grabbed it at home yet. There are some nice improvements to the email client ('mozilla mail').

Okay, I still haven't got my new design rolling, but I have taken a bunch of screenshots for my new design gallery, which should go live very soon, maybe this week. I'll probably add a new front page to the site that branches it off into the design gallery (for, you know, potential employers) and all the rest, for you, my gentle readers.
After years of living a relatively sedentary lifestyle, I have, since January, been taking my health more seriously than I ever have before. I've been lifting weights twice a week with Page (of Vore fame) and have, in the past three weeks, started hitting some local trails to up my cardio. The final piece in the puzzle is to get my diet together. But I'm happy to be moving forward on the whole thing, and I'm already seeing/feeling the benefits of it.

Eight years ago today, Gina and I were married at city hall in NYC while there on a spring break vacation. There are no words with which to descibe my pleasure in being able to say that, except perhaps these: [tips glass] here's to eight more!

Looks like Wrox press and Friends of Ed are going to close down. That's really too bad. I've used books by both of them, and have always been impressed with the quality.

Been surfing a bit with Camino (formerly Chimera) on OS X. Great little browser.
Saw Road to Perdition last night (Sam Mendes' follow up to American Beauty). Breathtaking.

Another great post from reallivepreacher.
Spring break is coming up. Maybe I'll finally get a chance to port this thing over to b2 (and, perchance, whip my portfolio into shape).

Congrats to sjarvis and wife Hallie on the birth of their baby boy, Daniel.
Need an FTP server for Windows 2000? Check out GuildFTPd. If you just need a client, try filezilla.

I try to stay out of political speculation about the possible war with Iraq, but I found this essay by Charlie Reese enlightening. Perhaps you will too.
I spruced up the showlister page a bit and added some screenshots (using pb's wonderful snapgallery). Need to get 02b out the door, but I've been swamped with real life.
Spent a few hours today studying for the SCJP exam and actually understood a few things (if only every language were as comprehensible as php). Also walked the dog, visited my father (who's doing better, BTW), and demonstrated my madd sysadmin skillz by fixing a really anoying web server problem at work so the redesign of our program site(s) could go live. I'd call that a really good day. Now, it's time to sleep.

Like we didn't suspect this already: running windows update sends microsoft a list of *all* your installed software according to this article. I suppose the next logical step is a kazaa virus to delete anything that looks hacked.
