Dirty Town
When the rain comes down it never seems to help
the streets shimmer and glow but I'm still with myself
walking down the tracks towards our old house
I hear a band singing songs about us now.

There's a blackbird winging through the kudzu now
and I wish that I could somehow get you out
of my mind, my poetry, and my town
but a chorus of flames always burns me down.

Everybody tells me hey man you don't need to be afraid
Everyone of us has these days, and the days don't seem to end
But keep your head up, rest assurred, fight the fight, don't let it bring
you down.
But I remember when I first heard the sound
of my life scratching near the ground of this dirty town.

Drinking Old Style and talking about our dads
below the bridge on the street with the broken lamp.
Singing at the bar at JR's after closing time.
I thought I might have got it right this time.

Everybody tells me hey man you don't need to be afraid
Everyone of us has these days, but the days don't seem to end
But keep your head up, rest assurred, fight the fight, don't let it bring
you down.
But I remember when I heard the sound
of my life scratching in the ground of this dirty town.
